Do you love Poetry Slams? Spoken Word? Activism? Rapping? Creating Song Lyrics? This is the program for you!


Program Title: "Speaking Words into Power” A 3-part workshop series for teens

Program Date: 02/24/21, 03/03/21, 03/10/21 (Sign up on 02/24 for all 3 sessions)

Program Time: 3:30 p.m. -5:00 pm.

Audience: This is for ages 12-19.

ProgramDescription: This three-session workshop provides a historical journey through the cultural legacy of poetry and spoken word as both art forms and forms of protest/empowerment. Participants engage in activities that finding the real meaning, hidden messages. and/or metaphors. We will experience “Be-Bop and The Blues” in connection to spoken word, and conclude with a “Miracle, Lyrical Performance.”  

Outcomes: • Identifying the origin of spoken word through performance. • Understanding the legacy of oral language and creative expression. • Acquiring knowledge of spoken word’s alignment to various musical genres. • Learning techniques for performance.
